So, apparently, there are a good bit of people out there that find my work gaudy, too colorful, too busy, too strange, hard to interpret, unfinished, ugly, stupid, boring, the work of an uneducated artist, the work of someone that doesn't have an emotion to share, the work of someone that doesn't understand basic artistic concepts (ie shading, color theory, balance, depth, perception, etc.), and badly done.

That's fine. Think what you will. However, I must introduce 3 points.

The 1st point focuses on artistic concepts and rules. I'll start with my pet peeve, color theory. In the education of art, artists learn about colors that fit uniformly and pleasantly together. They are taught to use a palatte in their work that "belongs together." If it doesn't belong together, it is considered messy, boring, chaotic, and ugly, and the entire message behind the art is lost to these "educated" artists because of a "taught" aesthetic. The case in point is that if I walk outside in a populated city, not everyone is going to be wearing shades of brown ranging from ash to rust. I'm going to see some pinks, some greens, some black, some blues, some reds, some purples, etc. People aren't going to wear the same shitty color as the next person, and the same goes for colorizations of wild animals (why do I have red birds, bluejays, brown thrashers, orange chested robins, crows, a brown/black/white/gray/orange colored ring tail hawk, brown squirrels, gray squirrels, yellow butterflys, bright blue tailed lizards, green anoles, pink flowers, blue-green grass, etc. roaming around in my back yard? Why is it comforting and beautiful? Shouldn't it be chaotic and ugly according to your rules?) As for the rest of the rules, shadingand depth can be learned from paying attention to the shadows caused by a the light from the sun being blocked by a tree and understanding a little geometry and trigonometry. Balance on a piece of art is stupid for one reason; if someone has a really jacked up face, one eye, no teeth, Michael Jackson nose, Vulcan ears, and a hole the size of a half dollar in their cheek, are you going to stare straight at them? Chances are you are going to look at them through your peripheral vision so that you don't come off as a mean asshat. Next is perception. How in the hell is someone, besides myself, going to teach me about perception. That is how I see things and interpret things, and if an artist is going to pour his/her heart out in their art, why the hell can't the viewer just take a minute and try to understand the meaning from the creators perspective. If I was going to make stuff that I didn't feel or know about, I'd stop making art all together because it would just be a massive waste.

The 2nd point is that of this seemingly contagious prestige among artists. Some of the most creative minds in the world are still nice, sociable people. They have friends outside of their practice (art, science, engineering, etc...), and at the same time they feed their minds off of the public around them. True, natural creative minds are not snobs. There is something in everything, and they try to find it. As for some artists nowadays, it seems as though they are migrating away from the persona of a creative, and they are turning this into a sport. I've seen it more times than I can count. They (not all artists by any means, but a lot) regard themselves better than any other artist, and they only look at and create stuff that is centered around one feeling (be it pain, sadness, love, or loneliness). I'm sorry to tell you that this habit makes you one-dimensional, and although it may be amazingly done, it still becomes boring after you draw/paint it 30 times with different color variations (examples: Sadness in Green, Sadness in Red, Sadness in Lavender...). Everything I create comes straight from personal feelings, thoughts, and struggles. What I'm feeling is what I'm drawing or painting. I've been shit on by the world so many times and I have a multitude of sentiments about that in my subject archive to draw different things for 2000 years, so why in the hell would I explore one emotion when I can explore the entirety of my mind?

The 3rd and final point is that of judgement. If anyone thinks that I am uneducated either in general or artistically, they can go f*** themselves. I graduated validictorian of my high school, and I graduated from a 4 year college in 3 and a half years with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry. Being that I live where I live, the world crapped on me, and the only jobs available were those paying a Fast Food salary (yeah right, one of the hardest subjects to study, and you're going to give me 50 cents above minimum wage...jog on). I taught myself everything I know artwise, and I continue teaching myself everyday. As for someone that went to art school calling me stupid or not "understanding" my work, I'm sorry to tell you that you in fact are the stupid one, and I'm sorry that my work is too hard for your simple mind to understand the meaning behind it. If you really want to judge me, go ahead and make an ass of yourself. Your cozy life of only doing what you love as a living is horse shit (To the ones that slaved to get where you are so that you can do this kudos to you guys though. That struggle to the top of the ladder deserves praise). Hardwork and ingenuity matter so much more than who you know in the end. Making art in my free time and working at a job six days a week for 5 years without a vacation is a lot more respectable in my opinion than someone that sits at home all day with a pencil/brush/computer. If that is your job, I must be working 2 jobs for over 80 hours a week all while fixing up my new house that I own and taking care of my wife, 2 cats, and dog (and finding time to visit and talk to my parents and maybe 2-3 concerts and 3-5 movies at the theater per year). Stop being a snobby pansy, and I have to say that owning my house is so much better than scraping by in my parents basement or an apartment.

Sowwy if this made you feew bad. If you are a decent person, it shouldn't have made you feel anything (except maybe some agreeances and head nodding). That's my spiel. Have a wonderful day.

Have any of you guys ever had an emotion or thought so deeply ingrained in your mind and heart that it disrupts your everyday life? Have you ever used that problem to create something so meaningful to you that it helps you overcome the problem? If you have tell me about it. I find that the stuff I create from personal situations, ideas, and ideals come out better than some of my other stuff, and I wouldn't mind hearing about your inspirations. Feel free to spout off...
