In the past, I have dreamed of the future

This is the second piece in a series based on my dreams. About a month ago, I had a dream about visiting a fireworks store in Fort Crowe, Alabama, right over the Georgia state line when I was a kid. I remember walking in and being overwhelmed with awesomeness. Seriously, what kid doesn't love fireworks? There were M-80's, bottle rockets, jumping jacks, black cat firecrackers by the pound, huge mortars bigger than my arm, etc. I remember seeing all this stuff, and the colors and designs printed on the labels were crazy. All I could think about was going home and blowing up a GI Joe with a firecraker the size of my thumb (I think it ended up being a Snow Job GI Joe, and his face melted off). That is the way kids think. They don't live in the now, and when they see something that could potentially be badass, they think of the possibilities. That is what I'm trying to get at.
When did we lose the ability to think and plan ahead? When did we lose that childish trait that parallels precognition? We used to know what was going to happen. We used to plan for all the possible things that we could accomplish (even blowing a finger off). 9 times out of 10, we saw what we were going to do before we did it, and I think that is amazing. Yes, there were accidents and lessons learned, but did that stop us from being the kings of our castles? Did that stop us from taking chances? The answer is no, so why isn't that the case now that we are all grown up? Did responsibility beat that flurry of "what if" into a coma? Did consequence bury ambition in a shallow grave behind its trailer? What the hell happened along the road to make us forget about our dreams and future plans? Honestly, I think we just forgot...
